Upcycled Wine Bottle Watering

After those big party nights with friends, the next morning you always end up with a whole lot of empty wine bottles. You could bring them to recycle… or we can get creative and upcycle them!

Wine Bottle Waterer

  1. Clean the bottle and the labels by soaking the bottle in warm water with 1 cup of washing soda for 30 minutes.

  2. Decorate the bottle as you please.

  3. Punch a hole in the center of the cap using a hammer and nail.

  4. Fill the bottle with water and add some plant food too. Fill the bottle up where it starts to get narrow, and then add plant food and twist the cap back on.

  5. Optional features: If you leave the bottle undecorated, you can add a floater inside so it clearly marks where water level is at. You can also add marbles into the bottle to regulate the water flow.

  6. Make a 2 inch deep hole at an angle in the soil where you would like to insert the bottle. The angle will allow the bottle to rest against the edge of the pot. Seal the wine bottle into the soil so water doesn’t leak.

  7. Viola! A perfect way to upcycle your wine bottles and now you don’t have to worry about watering your plant while you are on vacation!
